Chester IL to Farmington MO 47 miles (TransAm 1,266)

I’m still Googling fun facts about Illinois and posting more Popeye photos when I realize Gina has already crossed into the fourth state on this TransAm trip: Missouri. The Show Me State. Show me what? I wonder. Gina might be thinking “Show me the road to Cousin Cynthia’s in Kansas City” with her crispy cool air-conditioned house, countertops laden with bottomless jars of chocolate, and that oh-so-comfortable queen size bed. Instead, Missouri is showing Gina a wide swath of the Mississippi river, a chase down the road by a huge Lassie dog (not a time for photos), another day of sweltering heat best combatted by being on the bike by 7 am, and a night spent in the (converted) town jail.  Let’s see … dogs, heat and jailhouses.  To Missouri I say, show me something different from Kentucky.
