TransBallard: Day 32

17 June 2012

Lesterville to Eminence 53 miles (TransAm 1,363)

Today the things that southern Missouri showed Gina can be categorized into three buckets: pretty, pretty cool, and maybe not so pretty as the other pretty things. All being said in the knowledge that beauty is forever in the eye of the beholder. We’ll start with Pretty.

Pretty

  • Cycling through the heart of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, described by Gina as “very bushy and scrubby, like Australia.”

  • Ice cream (see also Maybe Not So Pretty bucket below).  Wendy has a great Team TransAmmer pic here.

Moving on to Pretty Cool.

Pretty Cool

  • After a midnight thunder, lightning and wind storm of epic proportions, the thermometer cooling down to a gentle 86 and the rain stopping by 6 am.
  • Mama’s quadrunner.

  • Making great time and arriving at camp by noon, allowing for the drying out of the wet tent and the cleaning of the grimy bike.
  • Finally getting a turn at making dinner in a real kitchen, rather than via the camp stoves + picnic tables system of cooking.

And now for the Maybe Not So Pretty.

Maybe Not So Pretty

  • Scanning another losing PowerBall ticket. No $40 million payout today.
  • Getting ice cream at the local Dairy Shack. All I can say is I wouldn’t be trying to cut in line.

Note the license plate on the GMC in the lower left.

One Comment

  1. OMG as to the Day 32 Not So Pretty photos. Here is Aspen, we certainly miss getting to that kind of flava. The kayacking over the next day or so with the can of ceeers, looked great. Ozarks are gorgeous. I wonder if Gina did that bridge climb in Sydney, not dangerous or scary for a climber, but exposed and fun.
