Saratoga to Rawlins WY 45 miles (TransAm 2,653)
There are many silly jokes about “how many (insert people/type of people) does it take to change a light bulb?” A few of my favorites are:
Q: How many Australians does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Twenty-one. One to hold the bulb and twenty to drink beer until the room starts spinning.
Q: How many ADD kids does it take to screw in a light bulb?
A: Hey! Do you wanna go ride bikes?
Q: How many psychiatrists does it take to change a light bulb?
A: One, but only if the light bulb really wants to change.
Today this classic joke metamorphosed into:
Q: How many cyclists does it take to change a flat tire?
A: Four. One who knows what he’s doing and the other three because who wouldn’t want to help Wendy?
Good on Ya, Mates, as Neighbor Cynthia would say, for giving a gal a hand.
Part of today’s route took our TransAmmers along 13 miles of Interstate 80. On paper this looks quite daunting, one never wanting to ride on the thickest lines of the map, but in reality Gina said it was more pleasant than anything Eastern Colorado had offered up and quieter than pedaling across the I-90 floating bridge here in Seattle. This relatively pleasant ride upon I-80 delivered Team TransAm to the town of Sinclair, where the original Sinclair refinery – of the green dinosaur-branded gasoline station fame – is located (and still operational). This means that I stand corrected from what I said yesterday; I do have something in common with Wyoming. You see, the Sinclair gasoline dinosaur is nicknamed “Dino.” Exactly what my friends called me in Junior High. Frankly, I’d like to have other things in common with Wyoming besides a childhood nickname, such as spending quality time in her glorious national parks, but for now I’ll consider this to be a reasonable starting point.
