New Meadows to Cambridge ID 53 miles (TransAm 3,631)
There are typically two elements I can count on to be included in Gina’s daily updates: (1) the condition of the route and (2) how often and where she stopped for food. These elements are as constant as the rise of the sun and the fall of the sea. If the route is crappy, I will hear about it. If the route is good, I will hear about that too. Today’s route: crappy. Busy roads, unfinished shoulders. But one bright spot: crossing the 45th parallel, equidistant between walking the beaches with Blue Footed Boobys and organizing Santa’s list and possibly his workshop too.
Similarly, if the food stop is poor, I will hear about that (as may you). And if the stop is good, I will receive photos of happy eaters and/or delectable sweets. Today’s second breakfast stop was an entire 5 miles down the road from today’s first breakfast, which might be a record. I say might because I would have to sort through 74 previous emails to determine if this is truly the record and unlike all those journalists covering the Olympics, I am not about to (nor getting paid to) confirm the statistics on this one. So let’s just say it was a record for soonest second breakfast.
