Redmond to Belknap Hot Springs OR 59 miles (TransAm 4,029)

Today brings the final mountain pass climb of the trip, up and over the 5,324 foot high McKenzie Pass in Central Oregon. Gina almost didn’t make it, weighted down by the morning’s second breakfast. This would have been shameful in many ways but mostly because she would have missed meeting up with Dave and Ruth, friends from Seattle who were busy guiding a Bicycle Adventures trip over the pass from the other side. Only Gina could be in the middle of Oregon, pedaling down an empty highway surrounded by nothing but lava fields and lodgepole pines, and run into people she knows, including one of our top website fans and supporters.
