Southern Tier: Day 59

06 May 2014
St. Augustine, FL

It’s a bittersweet day. Time to say goodbye to Nicole and Paul and the Adventure Cycling van and trailer that have been our home and rolling suitcase for the past two months.

To our good friends and amazing guides Nicole and Paul – “Thanks” just doesn’t quite cut it. I’ve seen firsthand now how these trips are impacted by their leaders – from the logistics around mileage and accommodations to managing the food and finances to keeping a bunch of cats from getting their tails crushed among the rocking chairs. It’s a horrible job, really, the amount of work you put in to keep the riders moving forward and happy at the same time, while not pulling out your own hair as you somehow manage not to get as crazy or snippy or cracked as the guests. I spent 2 months trying to figure out how you do it and I’m still stumped but pleased as punch that you were the ones doing it. So thanks again for making the trip as fantastically memorable as it was and here’s hoping you get to sleep for a week and drink that first morning’s cup before anyone asks you a single question.

As for us, we’re now onto the “vacation” part of our vacation, spending the next few days in St. Augustine before heading up the Georgia coast to ride beach cruiser bikes around Jekyll Island and go ghost hunting again in Savannah. We’ll blog when we can, which means when we’re not busy “checking things out” with our friend Terri or getting a little extra sleep ourselves.
