TransBallard: Day 59

14 July 2012

Jeffrey City to Lander WY 59 miles (TransAm 2,782)

I don’t know what it is, but I am finding the photos of Wyoming to be quite intriguing. I suppose that may be partly because I’ve never given much thought to what Wyoming might look like, outside of her more famous parks like Yellowstone and the Tetons, which are stunning and always on display in travel magazines and online “Greatest Photos Of The Year” anthologies that I often find myself clicking through and drooling over and shouting about when it’s a place that I’ve been to and talking aloud to myself about how fantastic is that shot of Greenland and feeling the urge to start researching what kind of trip we could take there but then realizing that somehow it’s now 30 minutes later than when I first clicked that link and shoot, there’s that damn instant messaging flashing at me on my work computer … sigh.  Well, anyway, Gina hasn’t even reached the Tetons yet and still I’m finding there’s something about the unbroken vistas, open skies, and wild west flavor that speaks to me. (In James Earl Jones’ voice, of course.)

I think I’m going to have to see this Wyoming for myself some day. And not the some day of, “Oh, I’ll get around to that” some day, like the some day of cleaning out the closet or learning how to play the piano or making that colonoscopy appointment, but the some day of, “I’m rearranging my bucket list” some day. I just know Gina’s been yelling “I can’t stand it!” and when that happens, you should just quit your job, pack your bag, and book a flight out of the nearest major airport. Anything that she can’t stand in the scenery department is worthy of voluntary unemployment.

Today’s I Can’t Stand It! scenery is on the route between Jeffrey City and Lander. No services and strong side winds but nothing so bad as to take away the simple pleasure of pedaling down these lonesome highways.
