TransBallard: Day 62

17 July 2012

Grand Teton National Park WY 0 miles (TransAm 2,923)

Grand Teton National Park. A day of rest and relaxation, which, to quote Gina, “is not easy for [her] to do.” And yet, she seemed to do pretty well at it, refusing to get out of her cozy bed to any sort of morning alarm, thereby skipping the 9:15 am shuttle to Jenny Lake for a hike. A hike she’s done before so not worth losing any sleep over.

Gina has, in fact, “done did it all” in Grand Teton National Park, having visited here a few years back on one of her infamous Summer Road Trips With Cousin Cynthia. At that time the two of them were no doubt a pair of whirling dervishes, spinning their way through every notable visitor center, walking path, hiking trail, and biking route, leaving other tourists behind in their cloud of I Can’t Stand It dust. So it’s actually pretty perfect that Gina can take this day to relax rather than fret about all she should be doing and seeing. It’s a rare occasion when Gina completes a simple 2-mile hike and declares that to be enough exercise for one day – particularly one day in a National Park – but that’s exactly what she did today (along with Wendy) before further declaring that it was time for lunch and ice cream. Sounds like someone’s having no trouble at all getting into today’s R&R groove.

What is trouble is that we’re running short on blue pins for our Where In The World Is Gina? map:

Either Team TransAm needs to start riding farther with fewer stops or I need to make a trip to Office Depot. Given that over the past two months I’ve only put 25 miles on the car to their 2,900 miles on their bicycles, I suppose I could be the one to burn a bit more tread.

  1. Hi Girls, I love watching the pins on the map, so I’m voting for the trip to Office Depot. Love all the reports and the photos. Those today of the inside of the cabin are fantastic, I’d never leave. Thanks again for the great blog, Sheilah
