St. Augustine, FL to Jekyll Island, GA
It’s technically our ninth state of the trip but it’s not really possible nor probably advisable to ask Terri to slam on the brakes and stop at that Georgia State Line sign we just passed at 75 mph so Gina and I can snap a selfie. Welcome to Georgia! Land of bourbon peach cobbler and barrier islands lost in time.
We headed to Georgia via the A1A scenic route, sending us on a bitty car ferry crossing of the St. Johns River and on a tour of Amelia Island and its star attraction town of Fernandina Beach. Cute cute cute, we said, as we dined on the waterfront and posed with pirates. Sweet sweet sweet, we said, after later checking in to our Jekyll Island hotel and stretching our legs on her white sand beach. Brown brown brown, we said, when noting the color of the water lapping at our bare feet. Yes, brown, the result of churned up sediments and river-fed tannins. A little unexpected after the beautiful blue of Daytona but we’ll give this Georgia another chance tomorrow after we’ve had more time to properly explore.
