“Eighty-seven!” we shouted simultaneously, as the Packers scored the first touchdown of the Superbowl (Helen, did you hear us?). We awoke today thinking, Shoot, it’s No Bowl Monday here in New Zealand. But this is why we love our Top 10 Holiday Parks – hello, flat screen TV and ESPN. And also why New Zealand is a great place to travel – it’s only 3 hours different from home (plus a day ahead, but don’t think about that too hard or you’ll get confused and think the game’s already over).
There are downsides to watching Gridiron here. For one, we are missing at least two Superbowl parties, which for Gina means missing out on winning some money. And secondly, there are no fun commercials, just ESPN highlights of cricket, rugby, and netball. Now maybe if the Budweiser clydesdales were shooting baskets with no backboard we’d be entertained, but that is sadly not the case.
It’s pouring buckets here in Picton and we are blessed for having rented a Standard Cabin last night instead of pitching the tent. I guess that QTC made us soft, for neither of us could bear the thought of crawling around on all fours again to go in and out of our shelter. It’s so much nicer to be able to do so standing up.
While sitting here basking in the glow of an Aaron Rodgers win (Gina’s new favorite QB), we’ve had a surprise email from the other half of our Milford Trek’s Team USA, who are here in Picton for the evening. We’ve been invited over to their place (we would have asked them here but we only have three chairs in our wee cabin) for wine and take out, so off we go.
Postscript: Thanks, LuAnne and Rob, for such an entertaining evening in your much larger ensuite. Next bottle will be on us!
