Day 5 Trekking
Courmayeur to Arp Nouvea
11 Miles, 3000 ft Ascending, 2500 ft Descending
I’m pretty sure I’m hallucinating, as I lay here in the grass in front of our evening accommodation, staring at the blue sky and granite peaks overhead, unable to move after being laid to waste over the past hour of descending, my lower back seizing tight at about the same time the prickly heat rash on my ankles and feet caught fire. Because what I think I see is Tour Leader Jen prancing off for a post-trek run. Run. R-u-n. Run. This absolutely cannot be possible after 11 miles of ascending and descending and more ascending and descending. Plus she and Erica were carrying all of the snacks and picnic lunch. I drop my head back down and begin a full body inventory, starting with my brain since it’s clearly gone completely non-functional. I may never rise up from my prone position in the grass, but at least the last thing I will see will be the most incredible view of heaven and earth, and a sprightly little trail angel running past.
Today was yet another epic day, made even more so by the fact that there was not just one but two Italian cappuccino stops along the way. I mean seriously people, this is getting ridiculous. First the Beaufort cheese farm and now I can hoof my way up and up into these blue sky Alps and there’s someone who’s going to froth me up a cappuccino? Twice? I am speechless. Cheese, coffee, scenery out of this world. And maybe a heat stroke coming on, but what a way to go.
Amazing photos dina! I’m glad to have made it into the blog too haha! I can retire now 😉 I actually just ran round the corner of the hotel for a sleep and ran back 😛
