Seattle: 60 Is The New 80

01 August 2011

We’ve been riding our bikes as much as the weather here will allow, which is the same as saying we’ve been riding our bikes when it’s sunny out and not all drizzly and misty because even though we have full fenders and rain gear and thus technically would be “allowed” to ride under most Seattle Summer conditions we’re not that hard-core so it’s been sunny day spinning only which those of you who live around here know has been quite a few days and some glorious days indeed but maybe one or two shy of what we would normally expect.

With all this bike riding you would think we’d be up to a Century by now but plain and simple, we are not.  Today, however, we passed an epic milestone – over 60 kilometers (62, to be exact) or, as us Google Yanks would call it, 38.5250139 miles.  Given that we like to age ourselves backwards (50 is the new 40, 40 is the new 30, yadda yadda yadda), I’ve decided that we must throw some numeric weight in the opposite direction in order to keep our world in balance.  For this I choose our bicycle mileage.  From now on, when anyone asks me how old I am or how far I’ve ridden, I’m going to subtract 10 from the former and add it to the latter.  And while I’m at it, I might add a few more degrees to the temperature and a few more zeros to my bank balance.  Who’s counting anyway?
